Ocean Currents was launched in June 2008 as a location where I could drop miscellaneous materials relating (sometimes loosely) to the field of oceanography (which I teach) and which could then serve as a resource for my students or anyone else who happens to stumble upon it. It is partly a current awareness site, partly a portal to useful marine science resources and partly a personal indulgence. I make no claims whatsoever about its coverage – it’s simply a place where I can put stuff that my students might find interesting or useful. I also have no wish whatsoever to infringe any copyright rules so please let me know if you think I have so that I can take appropriate remedial action.
Ocean Currents is aimed primarily at students at the University of Plymouth who are studying marine science in one form or another, but as the site is open to everyone there is no knowing who might find it interesting or useful. Please feel free to leave an entry in the Visitor Book if you wish (all entries are reviewed before publication). You can also comment on any entry (again, all comments are reviewed before publication).
Please note that some of the links to external sites might not produce the full information that I suggest is available. For example, links to New Scientist articles should produce the full text for University of Plymouth students accessing the link via the University network but in some cases will only produce article summaries for readers who do not have the relevant personal or institutional licence. The same may be true of newspaper articles.
Finally, please be aware that this is a “spare moments” project so please don’t expect too much, and bear in mind that I live and work in the United Kingdom, and there will necessarily be a bias towards the information sources that I routinely review.
